Interior design trends this Spring
The key to creating stylish interiors this Spring – Strongvox shares advice and trends from design experts
It really feels like spring has finally sprung as temperatures soared to 24ºC this week. Bliss! The clocks have gone forward, Easter is here and it’s traditionally the time of year when we turn our backs on winter and start thinking about refreshing our homes, with deep cleans and new projects to update room décor and styling.
Here at Strongvox, work continues apace at our exciting new development at Laurel Hill, Cribbs Causeway, on the northern edge of Bristol. We’ve had some amazing feedback on social media to The Devoran, our three-bed show home, located on Plot 20, so we thought we’d share with you the inspiration behind its stunning interior design and give you the inside track to what’s on trend this spring. Plus, top tips and styling secrets to create your own perfect homely space.
The Inspiration
Paul Garland, Senior Designer at Bristol-based Andrew Henry Interiors, is the visionary behind the design concept at The Devoran, which has created such a buzz. “By using a neutral base colour, with accents of chocolate and cinnamon spice, plus different wood finishes and textures to add depth throughout, we have crafted a calm and warming environment in which the modern family can live.”
Key Design Tip:
Start with a neutral base colour and change your accent colours throughout the year. Choose bold and bright colours for spring and summer, and opt for warmer tones for autumn and winter. Simply change cushions, throws and accessories.
Designing Bedroom Bliss
Paul’s favourite room in The Devoran show home is the master bedroom. “Painting all walls and the ceiling in a soft caramel tone brings warmth and cosiness to the room. The matching bedroom furniture with its natural cane webbing detail introduces a subtle tropical vibe.”
Key Design Tip:
Add a statement light fitting to bring an instant wow factor to any room.
A Sublime Living Space
The beautiful design scheme for the living room is still under wraps, as the Strongvox Sales Office is based in this area of the show home. We are very excited to reveal a preview of the presentation board, outlining the scheme for the living room and its design components. Paul has created a sophisticated blend of city styling combined with softer, natural textures to create a calm and sublime feel. We’re certainly looking forward to seeing the final result!
Key Design Tip:
Carefully arrange and group your chosen accessories together on furniture or shelving, rather than having multiple individual pieces spread across an entire surface area.
Spring Trends
Paint giants Dulux and colour experts at the Pantone Color Institute™ have both revealed their colours for 2021, based on a broad range of worldwide influences.
- Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2021 is Brave Ground™, described as “a warm earthy tone, creating a feeling of stability, growth and potential; and provides a firm foundation for change and creativity in the home.”
- The Pantone Color of the Year 2021 is Ultimate Gray and Illuminating (a vibrant shade of yellow, in case you were wondering). Yes, two colours, but hey…who’s counting! According to Pantone, they are “two independent colours that highlight how different elements come together to support one another. A union of strength and positivity, encapsulating deeper feelings of thoughtfulness, with the promise of something sunny and friendly.” We agree!
Key Design Tip:
A floor standing houseplant creates a calming focal point in a room and is also great for improving air quality.
What’s HOT and what’s NOT…
We asked Paul for his top five HOT interior design essentials for this spring and his top five definitely NOT this year, thank you… Time to move over!
HOT…

- Incorporated work from home space, whether inside the home or outside in a garden office

NOT…
- Rose gold
- White kitchen units
- Cluttered worktops and surfaces
