Walk on the Wild Side #5

Uncategorised

Welcome to the fifth in our series of ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ blogs – a curated collection of places to visit, each focused around a Strongvox development located in the glorious West Country. We hope this inspires you to get outdoors and discover the treasures and beauty of our local areas on foot! In this edition, we explore the natural beauty of Dartmoor, Devon with four amazing walking routes.

Devon’s Dartmoor is a fascinating region with a unique, rugged beauty that must be experienced to be believed. With miles of pristine moorland, ancient woods, tranquil rivers, and valleys, it is an ideal destination for anyone who enjoys exploring the great outdoors. Even better, Dartmoor is full of walking routes that suit all experience levels, making it the perfect location for adventurers young and old. In an earlier blog post we explored the beautiful South Hams area of South Devon – a must read if you’d like to extend your visit to include the breathtaking Devon coast too. Why not experience the popular Vista development in Stoke Fleming near Dartmouth?

In this edition, we share with you some of the most accessible and awe-inspiring walks around Dartmoor, starting at Bovey Tracey, Okehampton, Ashburton, and Dartmoor itself. As a trusted and well-respected developer of quality homes in the South West, Strongvox Homes invites you to discover these stunning walking trails, some near our latest exciting development of Indio Fields, Bovey Tracey, and the natural beauty they provide.

Indio Fields by Strongvox Homes

The 15 new Strongvox homes at Indio Fields form a carefully selected development within the extensive private grounds and create a new community on the edge of Bovey Tracey. These stunning 4 bedroom detached homes, each with at least a single garage, are available now with great incentives. Plus, we have a beautiful show home where you can experience the quality and design of these special homes and the charm of living in this picturesque part of Devon. Discover Dartmoor, Devon…

There are many beautiful places to discover on Bovey Tracey’s doorstep. We’ve selected four, which are not only delightful to explore but also have historical interest:

  1. Heritage Trail at Bovey Tracey
  2. Okehampton Circular Walk
  3. St Lawrence Chapel Walk at Ashburton
  4. Two Moors Way at Dartmoor

1. Heritage Trail at Bovey Tracey

At Bovey Tracey, the Heritage Trail is a popular walking route that acquaints visitors with the town’s history and culture. The circular walk is easy-going and provides an audio guide from the Visitor Information Centre. The trail starts from the remains of the 18th century Dartmoor Railway line at Haytor Down and takes you through some of the town’s most picturesque sights, including the famous Devon canals.

Bovey Tracey Heritage website information on the trail can be found here.

2. Okehampton Circular Walk

Okehampton offers some of the best walking routes in Devon, and the Okehampton Circular Walk is a standout option. This 5.5-mile trail is manageable for walkers of all ages and experience levels. Along the way, you’ll pass through some of the region’s most stunning landmarks, including the Okehampton Castle. The natural beauty and wildlife will also captivate you as you traverse this remarkable region.

AllTrails website information on the walk can be found here.

3. St Lawrence Chapel Walk at Ashburton

Ashburton is another small town in the Dartmoor region that is home to some of the most breathtaking natural trails. One of the most popular walks starts at the high street and lasts for approximately 3.5 miles – the St. Lawrence Chapel Walk. This well-defined route makes for an easy trek and offers some of the loveliest views of the natural Devonshire countryside, making it an ideal weekend hike for families.

Ashburton’s website contains information on the walk – see here.

4. Two Moors Way at Dartmoor

The Two Moors Way is one of the most challenging yet awe-inspiring walking routes that takes you through Dartmoor and Exmoor national parks. It covers approximately 102 miles and can take up to 6 days to traverse. Along the route, you’ll have the chance to visit the ancient Bridges, famous Tors, and quaint villages situated within the Dartmoor National Park. Testimonials

“How helpful and informative your Sales Manager was at Russet Copse. We called in to have a look around the show home in advance of a Strongvox site commencing in Wedmore. He was so friendly and welcoming, we were shown the Helford which we were particularly interested in and talked through the different aspects of the property and what was and wasn’t standard. Considering we weren’t looking to buy a property at that site, he couldn’t have been more helpful. It was really refreshing to meet someone so enthusiastic and keen to help, a true asset to Strongvox Homes!”
