Originally a charming Saxon village, known simply as Estune, ‘the place by the Ash tree’, today, Long Ashton is a place like no other. Bordered by beautiful Ash trees, and surrounded by rolling countryside, this quaint village offers the most dramatic backdrop to everyday life.
History is very much alive in Long Ashton. The area, famed for its historic agricultural success, today boasts several working farms. Rich in architecture and heritage, life in Long Ashton is continually appealing. Its picturesque manor house, dating back to 1265, provides a beautiful centrepiece to a modern day world, whilst The Angel Inn, the oldest pub in the village (built in 1495), is as perfect a retreat today, as ever.
Whether it’s a relaxed or faster pace of life you’re looking for, Long Ashton has the answer: take a stroll around Leigh Woods, south of Nightingale Valley, which is as delightful as its names suggests; tee off at your choice of two excellent courses – Woodspring Golf and Country Club or Long Ashton Golf Club; head to one of the village’s many pubs; or, for a more energetic night scene, enjoy all that Bristol’s thriving centre has to offer – savour chic cafes, traditional bars and a great range of restaurants.
For those with families, Long Ashton and the surrounding area have a wide choice of primary, secondary and independent schools.
Long Ashton has a strong community life; there are a number of clubs, from judo, scouts and tennis, to mother and toddler groups, not to mention the annual Bristol Balloon Fiesta, held at Ashton Court Estate. The local village hall also boasts a full calendar of events, making Long Ashton an ideal location for family life.
